Late last night as I was opening up my internet and reading the news on the Yahoo home page as I frequently do I came across a list. This list, which contained a variety of video game titles that are currently bieng made into movies suprised me. Many of these games I knew were becoming movies such as Halo and World of Warcraft, but i had no idea that Gears of War was to become a film.

After researching I became aware that this movie is not far from appearing on the big screen. With the films rights already taken by New Line Cinema with Legendary Pictures co-financing and co-producing the film. The film is to be directed by Len Wiseman director of other movies such as Underworld and Live Free or Die Hard. It’s been said Cliff Bleszinki will be acting as executive producer. This should help keep it closer to what the game is and about rather than giving it a Hollywood makeover.

The film is already projected for a release in 2010, and if the game follows its curent path (A new game every two years) it should be in theaters at around the release of Gears of War 3. As for me I was very exited to hear about this project and cannot wait to see the movie. For a shooter, Gears actually has a decent plot, and could be turned into a great action movie if made correctly. But only time shall tell, most games have not made a great transition to the silver screen. Does anyone remember Street Fighter the Movie?
