Trade Wars: Toys R Us Vs Gamestop

ToyVGameA few days ago, it was announced that Toys R Us would begin a program to buy used games from customers.  One thing I know we’ve all been wondering is, how are the trade-in values at Toys R Us compared to Gamestop?  Well, after some time on ToysRUsTradeinCenter.com and speaking to 3 different Mike’s at 3 different Gamestops, the results are in.

Here is a custom HBG MS Paint chart to show which store has the better trade in value.  I used a few recent and few older Xbox 360 and PS3 games.  I feel this will give you an idea on what you can expect to get on most games.  I only did this generation of games, but, from a peak I saw previous generation games didn’t fetch very much at all.

TradeInComparison

Hands down Toys R Us offers you more on trade-ins. It makes you wonder how long they will offer these higher prices(I would suggest trading Wolfenstein NOW for that 32.50).  Is it being new to this, they want to lure you in?  If Toys R Us can continue to offer higher prices, it could catch on and give Gamestop a run for their money.  For now, I feel people who trade games will continue to trade to Gamestop for their promotions and wider selection of games.  There might be a shift towards Toys R Us by some, but others will stick to what already works for them.

It will be interesting to see how the trade-in program at Toys R Us works out over the next few months.  It’s still WAY too early to tell if it will have any effect on Gamestop.  With Toys R Us offering more credit, you can only wonder what will happen from here.  Does this make you want to start trading to Toys R Us?  Let us know what you think of this.  Let the trade wars begin!

Wow Gamestop fucking blows, Toys R Us FTW. But a person like me, I stopped trading in games a long time ago. I normally just sell it to a friend for half off, so if a game is 60 then they pay 30 lol. I’m a bad friend. But I hardly sell my games, I only do that if I absolutely hate the game. And again I hardly buy a lot of games because I use gamefly so if I hate the game, send that shit back. I buy games that I know for a fact I will use over and over like a used car. Examples: MW2, Uncharted 2 and Modnation Racers

This is silly because these could be cherry picked, and just how long can they keep that difference up? When they’re sitting on a million copies of GTA4 like Gamestop is then you know it will come crashing down. Competition is always good, but this is a pretty misleading article. (imo)

Did you even read the whole article Sho?

Maybe you should read instead of just looking at pics

With more and more games available digitally this seems like a horrible time to go into the used games business yet all the major sellers seem to be doing it. Between that and the fact that its easier then ever for people sell their physical games to other gamers themselves through craigslist and ebay for more money, one has to wonder how the stores hope to be successful doing this?

OMG thank you! I can’t stand Gamestop ripping me off. Finally, I can stop selling my used games on eBay (which was OK except when you consider listing fees, paypal fees, etc.).

Yes, ebay and it’s fees can be quite annoying at times. But one thing you do have to remember is all values listed are credit only. Toys R Us only does store credit at the moment.

Toysrus buys Grand Theft Auto? LoL I wonder if they buy dildos too, they are TOYSrus after all. This is cool though, when I was a kid I’d go to Toysrus to buy all my NES and SNES games, after that I quit consoles for PC games.

Well I am going to Toys R Us now. I hate Gamestop’s service so thank god another place offers better prices.

Another thing to consider is that the trade in values may be promotional, to drum up comparisons just like this one. Although this is very helpful right now, it would be interesting to see if Toys R Us is still dominating on trade in values a few months from now.

Ya, it will be interesting to see how this all turns out, now that we got Toys R US, Gamestop, Amazon…and Best Buy and Walmart are currently testing a trade in program.

For now im sticking with Gamestop for convenience, and reasons DeadStrech has posted.

Even though Toy ‘R Us get you more back, it’s still only store credit and STILL ‘R Us doesn’t sell used games. I mean my whole purpose of trading games is to buy used games after I traded, it’s like a neverending cycle for me.

Also if you’re an Edge card member with gamestop you’ll get and extra 10% back on any used game, and most of the time when you trade 3 or more you’ll get an extra percentage on top of that.

With that said, I’m still sticking with Gamestop.

Well at least we can now get a few more deserved moniez back for our games.
But who knows what will happen in the future, maybe prices for toy r us will drop and gamestop will rise.

Well, if you read up on toysrus one, they take game back from the Atari 2600 onto the new ones, however, you need to have the original package for the game.

Gamestop may be in trouble in the near future. As soon as people learn the difference Gamestop is going to have to either pony up or stick to their promotions like glue.

That being said, most of those prices are still bullshit.
