I promise today’s question will be easy and one everyone should have an answer to. If you don’t have an answer, well I don’t know how you can call yourself a gamer. Before we go onto today’s question, I will answer yesterday’s question which was, “There are many games that have the power to scare us out of our seats. Whether it be with an enemy popping out of nowhere or some psychological mind game. Have you ever gotten scared from a game? If so, what game was it that scared you?” That game for me was…
Doom 3 on PC. It was actually one of the only times I’ve been scared by a game. Of course, I was playing in the dark with the surround sound on and then out of nowhere came this Imp and scared the living hell out of me.
Now, onto today’s question!
For the most part, games started out as coin-operated arcade machines and due to their success, the home consoles were born. Everyone at some point in their life has been to an arcade and pumped a sh!t load of quarters/tokens into one game, what was/is your favorite arcade game?
If you don’t have a favorite arcade game or haven’t been to an arcade, I don’t know if I can call you a gamer anymore. Just kidding…or am I? Looking forward to your answers!

Simpsons and/or X-men arcade games…nothing better
“Pac-Man” comes in second place.
“Street Fighter 2″…I played that a lot when it was first released in the arcades. I still enjoy it today.
time crisis and marvel vs capcom 2
the ninja turtles arcade games i liked those and pac man also lols
Resident Evil on Playstation
Pac-man of course
I’ve dished out over $500 in the Time Crisis series to this day. Money well spent. ;p
resident evil arcade games
Tiiime Crisis. And Pac Man too.
the Simpsons arcade game, nuff said
The ninja turtles and pacman It was my addiction lol
the arcade game i played the most was one of the soul calibur games,i think it was SC2. my mom went to this casino and i had to come along, so they had an arcade where the kids get locked up at. so i spent like 12 hours or playing SC2.we were there for like 3 days i think. every time a kid tried to take my game while i was getting quarters i would have to play them for my spot back. i never lost =P
house of the dead, love the cheesyness of it, man i wish i could play it right now
I was born in ‘94, arcades kind of passed by by the time I was seven. However, I played a lot of pacman, and a lot of versions of pacman on my PC. For HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS. So I guess that will be my game.
I got to the arcades at the dawn of the huge machine that cost at least a dollar to operate so the machines that I can call real arcade games that I loved where Revolution X and Time Crisis which my Dad and I played the hell out of.
My local theatre has a Guitar Hero machine. I like playing the demo in the stores but at the theatre I can play it on a flat panel screen at eye level and an awesome sound system built in to the cabinet. I feel like a kid scampering around the “arcade” getting change to plug into the machine so I can play a Mastodon song which of course was not around when I was a kid. Very cool.
Not really played a whole lot of arcade games but these are ones I have good memory off. First Shadow Dancer. Though it’s really difficult, being a ninja and having a dog/wolf as a helper is just awesome.
Also Chase HQ. While I like the game the reason I remember it is because when you catch up to the bad guy and the siren kicks in, the whole arcade hall can hear the siren. So fucking loud and awesome.
mortal kombat and marvel vs capcom
i really loved house of the dead and street fighter
it was Marvel Vs Capcom, the first one, that game was awesome
DEFINITELY All the Time Crisis games…… whenever i went to the arcades, i rarely played another game until i ran out of money.
So many great arcade games. Everyone picked some real classics. Im going to say Daytona USA, I loved when some arcades had the version with the 8 cars lined up in a row.
Definitely House of the Dead as well, great game even though I was terrible at it.
Time Crisis, never have i spent so much on one game, it was just so fun killing people with a fake orange gun.
Jurassic Park arcade machine
Even thought i very very rarely went to a arcade, my game of chose was Time Crisis. I always liked the shooters were you got to pick up the gun and blast some people away
Cruisin USA!
I’d have to go with house of the dead, all of them. Even if the aim was off sometimes, and the reload system never seemed to correctly operate for me, I still greatly enjoying wasting many quarters on that.
TMNT, the one with 4 players, don’t know the exact name, but me and my friends loved that game. Beat it like 3 one day.
Cruising World.
Maybe that Star Wars one if it wasn’t like 20 quarters to beat one level
The Star Wars Trilogy one?
I managed to beat up to the last level (attack on the second Death Star) on one credit
all of the Time Crisis series i couldnt stop playing it
Daytona – That game was everywhere, so I ended up being pretty damn good at it.
pacman
The Simpsons: The Arcade Game
The X-men arcade was definitely my favorite.
Mortal Kombat 2, oh man. I wish I had an Arcade around my town to still play that.
i remember this 4 person like capcom fighter where you fought through levels 4 person coop, it was a side scroller like the simpson’s one, but i like this one
TMNT was my favourite, it was so fun to play it 4 player co op
Dudes, totally loved the Sim
Oh god premature comment, I was going to say I loved the Simpson’s arcade game. I had so much fun on that thing with my cousins.
Don’t worry, it happens to lots of guys.
same here Tovan, loved the simpsons arcade game
I’d have to go with either X-Men arcade or the Simpsons one. Sooo many tokens spent at Chuckie Cheese’s…lol
house of the dead was my favorite arcade back in the day
fuck yea man, me and my dad went to the arcade once every 2 weeks to play that
rampage… the 3 player arcade… effin incredible…. and hells ya xDSJxPyro’s got it right, house of the dead was, is and always will be one of the best… the zombie is dead… long live the zombie!!!
Man I pumped so much money into arcade games but the one that I spent the most time playing would have to be Time Crisis. The House of the Dead is a close 2nd, that game was so much fun as well.
MvC2
I loved pac-man, i wasted so much money on it lol
the arcade games i played the most were Daytona, Sega rally, Virtua Striker and Time Crysis
Donkey Kong & Frogger.
I don’t think I had one particular favorite but some of the ones I played the most were anything in the Street Fighter series, Killer Instinct 1/2, Mortal Kombat 1/2/3, Samurai Showdown, Tecmo Bowl, Cruisin’ World.
The Simpsons Arcade Game was awesome.
I remember feeding a lot of coins into all the fighting games back in the day. Super Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Virtua Fighter 2 and Tekken 2 are the ones that drained my pocket money.
Those were fucking good times and thanks to MAME I can relive those memories but sadly without the adrenaline pumping environment.
Aside from the obvious arcade games, that everybody used to play in the 80s, I really enjoyed Pac-Land. That’s ‘Pac-Land’, not Pac-Man. I used to throw coins into it like nothing else.
Tekken Tag Tournament. It was different than the other arcade fighters with it’s tag feature. Man it was a new and fun Tekken at the time and such a great addition to arcades.
To this day, I still pump a sh!t load of coins into is Time Crisis. Everytime I go to the arcade, thats were I head. And if they don’t have time crisis, I usual go to the pinball machines xP
I played the shit out of the Metal Slug in the corner store, i would go through handfuls of quarters like a fat guy through french fries. Then the fucking store got robbed and somehow the machine was destroyed in the process. Fucking junkies robbing stores and shit.
I can’t really remember the name of it. But it was a 4-player game which you were like a wizards or something and had to go through the level. It was really fun though I wasted about 10 $ in one day just on that game. Another one is the Car racing ones too ^-^!
wwefreak45 you are probably talking about Gauntlet Legends. I have to say one of my favorite was the Simpson’s game from Konami.
There was 3 main games. Metal Slug 3 it was just too fun. The star wars game I just had to kill vader no matter how long it took. And the last was time crisis 1-2, I thought it was so cool that the guns would blowback and they had that pedal for cover.
Timesplitter games i would stand there winning lvls wth my best friends for hours ^_^
Crazy taxi! Oh yess!!!
I havent played many arcade games but id have 2 say The Simpsons Arcade Game was Good
A few games that i played in the arcade that were my fav were, Area 51, Grid (should be on console), Pac-man of course.
My first game I wanted to play through ’till the end was Metal Slug 3. It pissed me off, but it was so addictive.
Asteroids was the one i seemed to get addicted to. I still hear the crappy countdown and sound effects in my nightmares.
