Dark Light
Question of the Day – 10/14

I promise today’s question will be easy and one everyone should have an answer to.  If you don’t have an answer, well I don’t know how you can call yourself a gamer.  Before we go onto today’s question, I will answer yesterday’s question which was, “There are many games that have the power to scare us out of our seats.  Whether it be with an enemy popping out of nowhere or some psychological mind game.  Have you ever gotten scared from a game?   If so, what game was it that scared you?”  That game for me was…

Doom 3 on PC.  It was actually one of the only times I’ve been scared by a game.  Of course, I was playing in the dark with the surround sound on and then out of nowhere came this Imp and scared the living hell out of me.

Now, onto today’s question!

For the most part, games started out as coin-operated arcade machines and due to their success, the home consoles were born.  Everyone at some point in their life has been to an arcade and pumped a sh!t load of quarters/tokens into one game,  what was/is your favorite arcade game?

If you don’t have a favorite arcade game or haven’t been to an arcade, I don’t know if I can call you a gamer anymore.   Just kidding…or am I?  Looking forward to your answers!

the arcade game i played the most was one of the soul calibur games,i think it was SC2. my mom went to this casino and i had to come along, so they had an arcade where the kids get locked up at. so i spent like 12 hours or playing SC2.we were there for like 3 days i think. every time a kid tried to take my game while i was getting quarters i would have to play them for my spot back. i never lost =P

I was born in ’94, arcades kind of passed by by the time I was seven. However, I played a lot of pacman, and a lot of versions of pacman on my PC. For HOURS AND HOURS AND HOURS. So I guess that will be my game.

I got to the arcades at the dawn of the huge machine that cost at least a dollar to operate so the machines that I can call real arcade games that I loved where Revolution X and Time Crisis which my Dad and I played the hell out of.

My local theatre has a Guitar Hero machine. I like playing the demo in the stores but at the theatre I can play it on a flat panel screen at eye level and an awesome sound system built in to the cabinet. I feel like a kid scampering around the “arcade” getting change to plug into the machine so I can play a Mastodon song which of course was not around when I was a kid. Very cool.

Not really played a whole lot of arcade games but these are ones I have good memory off. First Shadow Dancer. Though it’s really difficult, being a ninja and having a dog/wolf as a helper is just awesome.
Also Chase HQ. While I like the game the reason I remember it is because when you catch up to the bad guy and the siren kicks in, the whole arcade hall can hear the siren. So fucking loud and awesome.

The Simpsons Arcade Game was awesome.

I remember feeding a lot of coins into all the fighting games back in the day. Super Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct 2, Mortal Kombat 3, Virtua Fighter 2 and Tekken 2 are the ones that drained my pocket money.

Those were fucking good times and thanks to MAME I can relive those memories but sadly without the adrenaline pumping environment. :(
