Would You Set Your Friend on Fire Over $40?
Would You Set Your Friend on Fire Over $40?

You might not, but someone in Broward County, Florida did.  15 year old Michael Brewer owed a friend $40 for a video game, the unpaid debt led to the “friends” stealing Michael’s father’s bike.  Michael naturally told authorities and the friend who stole the bike was apprehended on Sunday.  This led his “friends” to retaliate by covering Michael in rubbing alcohol and setting him on fire.

Luckily Michael survived because of a local resident who used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames.  Michael then ripped off his shirt and proceeded to jump into the complex’s swimming pool.  It’s a good thing someone was there to help him out.  It could have ended up a lot worse if they weren’t there.  Sadly, Brewer will more than likely spend the next 5 months of his life in a hospital.  One of the police officers, Sgt. Steve Feeley had this to say about the kids who were arrested for this hanus act,

“A couple of them last night were laughing about it,” he said. “One of them arrested today seems genuinely sorry about it.”

Laughing about it just seems disgusting and cruel.  As for the one who is “genuinely sorry,” it’s a little to late for that, shouldn’t you have thought before you acted?  It seems like kids today don’t value friendship the way older generations do.

Kids today are getting progressively worse with each generation in my opinion.  We can sit here and point fingers at who or what is to blame, but what it comes down to is the parents lack of control over their children and a lack of discipline.  When I say discipline, I don’t mean hitting the children, there are other ways to punish your children for wrong doings.  The boys who lit their friend on fire are about to learn this.
