Modern Warfare 2 on PC Gets Price Increased

Well, it looks like no one is safe from paying $60 for games anymore.  It was announced that the price of the PC version would equal that of the it’s console counterparts.  PC games have always been a bit less than console games, but it seems that things will be different with Modern Warfare 2. GameStop and Amazon currently have Modern Warfare 2 listed for sale at $60, which is about $10 more than most PC gamers expected to pay.

There has been no real reason given by Activision as why the price has been increased, but at least console versions remain the same price.  Is this a sign of things to come with PC games and will more companies follow?  Could this be the start of paying more for PC games?

I never really understood why PC games have been 10 bucks cheaper, or console games 10 bucks more. It sucks for PC gamers, but welcome to the club.

xDSJ, it is because to publish a game on a console you have to pay royalties to the console maker and such, no submission process to Sony or MS. There is no royalties on the PC which means the game is cheaper.

I always found it ridiculous that PC players paid less for their games than console players. First, PC has many advantages, such as modding, console option, cheats (that only work by console). It should be considered normal that they pay as much as the console players do, since the console players can’t do the stuff people can do on pc, and still pay the same price.

Terrible news. I seriously hope this isn’t the start of a growing trend for PC games. I think that Modern Warfare 2 will be worth the $60 price tag, but $50 is expensive enough for most of the games being released.

Well do to the prices of PC games being generally $10 lower because of all the console licensing and whatnot (as what i have read) I dont see a real reason why there doing this. I guess just to higher the prices so its “Fair” across the board. Which after checking other PC games like Borderlands they keep there prices at $50 for a PC games. We’ll just have to wait and see what Activision will say about this. I hope that other company’s dont follow in there footsteps. Well when you have such a big game that everybody is hyped up for and gearing to buy and play, that you can make the PC games pay another $10. Yah people may complain, but with such a big game how many people are Not going to buy it because of the extra $10

i hope that more companies do not start to follow this trend because there would be more cases of pirating games this is already a problem for the companies and the price hike will make all worse IMO

    your welcome for the article

Not really surprising at all really, Activision has been talking forever at trying to up the prices on games, their CEO even said that they wanted MW2 on the consoles to be $100 and up.
