I’m surprised we never covered this before. The game World of Goo is a very popular PC/Wii puzzle game created by independent developer 2d Boy. The game was released in October of 2008, and as a celebration for the game’s 1-year birthday, they decided to offer the game for whatever YOU decide to pay for it! The developers, after offering the sale for about a week, did a very interesting analysis of what price people paid. The average price of the game was $2.09, and the vast majority of people paid a single cent, but they have data going up to $50.99, which is interesting. I imagine that’s people who have already bought and loved the game.
I just bought my copy, as passing up a practically free game is against my morals. (I won’t divulge how much I paid, but it wasn’t the $19.99 price on Steam!) This game is supposed to be fantastic and really, if you want, you can pay a single cent for it. You may as well do it.
Head here to purchase the game. Unfortunately, you can’t buy directly through Steam with the pay-your-own-price option.

this game is fun as hell
i played the demo and it was fun but i spent my money on Machinarium
Now only if the world was like that: “Pay Your Own Price”. Everyone in the world would be happy lol
It’s pretty awesome they’re willing to do this stuff, I wonder how much they end up gaining/losing from sales like this. Thanks for the tip John.
That sounds awesome. With all these great deals for PC gamers, people without, like me, are feeling real left. lol
Looks pretty great but i don’t think i’ll buy it anytime soon.
It’s a great game, I got it for $5 during a Steam weekend sale. Definitely get it while you can.
This reminds me of what Radiohead did with “For Rainbows”.
Thats pretty cool, the creators of the most games in the world should do the same =)
Wow that’s pretty interesting what the developers are doing. I vaguely remember that game.
