MS Spokesperson Responds to $100 Xbox Live

A few days ago Michael Pachter set the rumormill ablaze with his $100 Xbox live prediction.  David Dennis, a Microsoft Spokesperson during a sales call touching upon the NPD numbers from last month made a mention of the whole $100 Xbox live rumor,

“I don’t foresee a scenario where we’re going to double the price of LIVE anytime in the next couple months.”

While this might cover us for the “next couple of months,” this really doesn’t help us not worry about long term, as in a year from now or even half a year from now.  At least we don’t have to worry for the “next couple of months.”  Maybe we should stock up on 1 year subscriptions now?

Well, I can see people taking precautions and stocking up on Xbox live while they can. I personally think it’ll eventually happen, since, hey! It’s microsoft! Though I’m sure they’ll regret their mistake once people start dropping out of Xbox live, and they start making less money than they do now, which is already ridiculously much.

I totally agree with this article. He was a little vague in his response. Who’s to say a year from now they wont raise it. Even two years from now. I think it would be rediculous to raise the price to 100 no matter what.

MS will never up the price of Live. They know that’d be a huge mistake.

I’d pay $100 for xbl it would only be 32 cents a day… No way I would go to the dark side aka the big black paperweight aka ps3 has no games :)

your math is wrong, it would only be 27 cents a day, but still, I dont want to drop $100 all at once like that. Games don’t cost $100 (yet) so why should the online service for them?

It’s that exact way of thinking is why Microsoft and the industry today is all about money. “Oh it’s not that big of a deal.” Well to some people it isn’t a big deal, but for the gamers and industry as a whole it is a big problem.

Yea, what about long run?! Of course we didn’t like it would happen in a few months, we were all thinking more long run, like a few years from now.

I guess Microsoft felt compelled to say something. In turn I think this just hurt them. If they would have just kept their mouths shut everyone would have most likely forgot about it in a few months.

If this ever were to come true, whether it be 3 months, a year, etc. It won’t be $100 for long. Consumers won’t pay such an outrageous price for LIVE unless they are the kind of gamer that stays inside all day, orders pizza, and never leaves the house because he is afraid of the outside world. *No offense :D * So, if they do charge this ridiculous price, hardly anyone will pay it, and thus, they will have to change it back or risk losing a very significant amount of profit. Meh, that’s just my opinion…

People are already up in arms about the $50 price, I don’t think MS wants to alienate any more of their customers with a price hike like that. It would be a huge mistake IMO. The sad part is they have us by the balls. If you want online play you have to have XBL gold. I have already said in another post that I would pay it, IF and only IF there were some MAJOR upgrades/additions to the service.

Considering that the Wii and PS3 are already free, minus whatever you paid for your router… MS already makes a ridiculous amount of money from the 360, I don’t see why, other than their own greed, why they couldn’t also make it free. :( I mean, I can see that they want all the money that they can get out of gamers, but $50 dollars plus the cost of games is still alot for the average gamer who wants only to play a fun game, and have fun playing with people he normally doesn’t play with. Without having to spend cash out the ass for a good time.
