Xbox 360 NOT Getting Blu-Ray Player

Today, Major Nelson made it clear that the Blu-Ray drive that Steve Ballmer talked about was for the PC.  Major Nelson had this to say,

During an interview yesterday, Steve Ballmer was asked about Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360. I wanted to clear something up. Steve was referring to Blu-Ray accessories for the PC. As we have said in the past, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox 360

Major Nelson also talks about how the Xbox 360 will be the “first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies.”  Thanks for clearing that up Major Nelson.  We can now resume our lives of streaming HD content on 360.

We Have No Plans For Blu-Ray On 360 [Major Nelson Thanks, Pyro!]

I think what’s most important here is the fact that I WAS RIGHT!

I wouldn’t have really cared if the 360 got Blu-Ray or not.

Thank da’ Lord!!!! This didn’t make sense to me from MS side. Unless it was going to improve gaming, which it wasn’t, it didn’t make any sense. The problem with the media/format that right now is DVD’s size limitations, and unless MS was going to start putting games on Blu Ray, which it wasn’t, I didn’t see this happening. MS would be better off going with a different format such as Holographic Versatile Disc, or something else as it’s future format. But according to them the future is digital download so who knows.

that still sucks cause Microsoft made a big mistake when they supported HD DVD where that failed fanstaicly good
i think they should support blue-ray and we know the ps3 is one of the cheapest blue ray player around.
i still think Microsoft should re consider but keep the costs low as possible which would be a very hard job to do

just forget you can rip 360 game while at the moment ps3 Blue ray games so far not have been cracked or riped so there is a good side tp crack down on pirating and how long the ps3 been out 3 years so far not 1 game has been cracked which its an achievement by itself

I guess this makes more sense on Sony’s end, allowing it to go to the PC won’t really oppose the PS3 much.

I want to know more about this “Instant On” 1080p video. I don’t see how it will be instant, 1080p takes a ton of bandwidth. They have told us about this, but not shown us anything. I want to know more Major Nelson.
