Netflix Coming to PS3 (Confirmed)

A recent press release announced that next month, PS3 owners will now be able to enjoy Netflix on their PS3 consoles.  Many rumors of this happening flew around for a while, but now it is finally true.  Right from the XMB, PS3 owners will now have access  to all the movies and TV shows Netflix offers via it’s instant queue/watch now feature.  Naturally you will need to be a member of Netflix in order to use this feature. (duh.)

The press release stated that Netflix coming to PS3 “solidifies the PS3 system as the most complete home entertainment hub on the market today.”  While Netflix is a great addition and the PS3 does has blu-ray, don’t go forgetting about the 360.  Although, the 360 just lost something that was an exclusive feature, and a good one to.

While I’m sure this will make a lot of fanboys upset they can’t use this against PS3 anymore, one can only wonder if the Wii is next for Netflix.

I don’t know the specifics about Netflix, but if it can stream movies in high quality in 1080p, then it should be good for the PS3 since it’s an “Entertainment System” instead of just a “Gaming System.”

That’s cool. Netflix was never a selling point for me, as I’m fine with walking 2 feet to the mailbox to get whatever I need.

That’s great news for Netflix subscribers that own a PS3 and not a 360. The can now get in on this. Honestly when you think about it Netflix coming to the consoles isn’t that big of a deal,to me. I mean you can already watch Movies instantly with your internet browser, and there are some titles that you can’t watch on an “instant device.” Lastly, if you have other people in your house using the service you can only Stream one movie at a time, which in my house we have two 360 and my mom watches on the computer.

I should have just kept this short, lol. Good News for the PS3 only owners. ;)

If I were a PS3 owner I might start keeping in the back of mind that this could lead to the PSN at some time down the road also becoming a pay service. It’s good to see Sony adding the Netflix service, but these services cost money and Sony is going to be looking at making up costs somewhere. I’m not saying it will happen soon, or 6 months, or maybe even a year…hell it may not happen at all. But I’d have to wonder if the addition of more and more of these services will eventually lead to some kind of monthly fee.

Meh…I don’t really watch movies on my PS3. Mainly use it for gaming.

But if that’s your thing, good news for you.

It was only a matter of time before Sony got this service for the PS3. If you were a company like Netflix, wouldn’t you want your service to reach as many people as it could. Now, because of this, they can reach more people. I don’t see this coming to the Wii though.

I guess this is pretty cool news for PS3 owners, but my question is how much did Sony pay to get this on their system?

This has got to make Microsoft a little mad, they spent a lot of time hyping their Netflix plan only to have their competitor do the same thing.

They have their Zune movie rental thing coming in the next dashboard update. Using MS points is going to confuse the crap out of everyone though.
