Reggie Fils-Aime Says NSMB will outsell MW2

That’s a pretty bold statement right there Reggie. With Modern Warfare 2 one of the most pre-ordered games with 2.4 million pre-orders in the Americas alone, it seems Nintendo will have their work cut out for them. Recently speaking with GTTV, Reggie made a bold statement. He claimed that the New Super Mario Bros Wii would outsell Modern Warfare 2 by the end of January.

Speaking to Geoff Keighley, Fils-Aime said,

You’ve gotta give me the entire holiday selling season, right, so let’s take it all the way through the January NPD data… yes, I’ll take that [bet]

I’m waiting to see what the NPD numbers for January are at this point. With Pachter predicting things like NSMB sales will “shock” you and predicting Modern Warfare 2 will break $500 million and sell 10 million copies by end of Q4, you have to wonder if anyone here is right. Kind of exciting isn’t it?

We’ll just have to wait until the end of January to see.

in all seriousness, though, a lot of moms/grandmothers/etc are going to be getting nsmb for their kids this holiday, but i just can’t see that amassing enough sales to overtake mw2.

I believe it possible. New Super Mario Bros. looks a great deal, I dare say, ‘new’. Modern Warfare 2 is just another shooter, right down to it, NSMB is something new and different on the Wii, and, even if it doesn’t outsell MW2, it will be very close.

Reggie is a fucking retard, lol. He’s one of the reasons I sold the Wii and went to Xbox. He thinks that Wii is the greatest console out there and I just can’t stand stupid people like that. Nintendo Wii is one system, Mario is coming out on ONE platform. I’d say that Nintendo and Xbox have around the same fan base considering Nintendo has a lot of family fans and Xbox has a lot of HC gaming fans. Then, you add on the sales from PS3 and PC and it’s obvious that MW2 outsells Super Mario.

Without a doubt, Yes! Why? Because Super Mario Bros has a HUGE fan base. Games like Modern Warfare 2 may have a big fan base, but take into consideration the ages of the people playing it. Now, take into consideration of the ages that play Super Mario Bros.

Clearly, New Super Mario Bros can outsell Modern Warfare 2. I would be surprised if it didn’t.

uhhh no, thats almost impossible, unless new super mario bros 2 has some amazing feature that revolutionalizes video gaming as we know it, its just not gonna happen

MW2 is a highly anticipated game for both 12-40 yr olds. SMB Wii is a highly anticipated for hard-core Nintendo fans and 6 year olds. Just sayin’.

Considering he said only on one console, by the end of the holiday season this seems like a fair bet on Reggie’s part. The holidays are a goldmine for Nintendo games remember.

See the way you wrote that article , you amde it sound like Reggie thinks Modern Warfare 2 is a bad game.

You have to show both sides of the same story…otherwise.

People reading this , that did not see the episode will assume that he thinks Modern Warfare 2 sucks.

He said it himself, it will be close and that he cant wait to play the game too.

In the words of Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, “that’s a bold statement.” I too am under the impression that there is no way a game that is only being released on one console is going to beat a multi platform game like MW2. But what do I know? We’ll see what it’s like when the dust settles after the holidays.

Nope. I know that Mario will not sell out MW2. MW2 is the most hyped game of all year. I think that 1 out of 100 people would rather get mario over MW2.
