Premium Content Subscriptions Coming to PSN

This morning it was reported that the PlayStation Network would more than likely receive a paid subscription service.  I’m sure many began to panic that they would have to begin paying for PSN.  Well, Kaz Hirai announced that this is not the case.

Although, he did announce that there will be subscriptions for premium content and services.  Hirai said,

SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network, Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services

Well, this must be a sigh of relief for all those who thought they would soon have to pay for the PSN online services.

well, If it adds new things, such as as more LIVE online experience, Im in. hopefully It wont be as much as LIVE for 1 year, as since the Ps3 and Xbox are now the same price level, I hope sony would have a lower price point. This is exactly what I said when LIVe came out. they should have a free service, but have another, premium, pay service.

Yeah, would love to see where this would go in regards to services and updates currently being offered by PSN. A nice pimped out XMB would be crack a lackin.

I was about to say to the PSN people, “Welcome to XBL.” But, since it’s not happening… good for them.

I did panic at first. I just finally got the money together to get a PS3 and I freaked when I heard the rumors of possibly paying for online play.

But this is a good idea. They will defiantly make money off of this.

Still free online, but an optional choice for a paid subscription. Sounds good to me.

I might look into this depending on the subscription cost. Hopefully the money made from this will help improve the PSN from its lackings.
