More Lesbians Banned From Xbox Live

Back in February of this year, Teresa found herself banned from Xbox live for placing her sexual orientation in her XBL profile.  It wasn’t the last time that a female admitting to being a lesbian would be banned for this reason.

Recently a gamer named Holly vented her frustration on After Ellen about how a shared XBL account of her and her girlfriend had received a ban for identifying themselves as a lesbian in thier profile.  Their profile read, “lesbians from way back.”  Though the ban seems to have only been for 24 hours, Holly argues that it was not a part of her gamertag, nor was she flaunting it.

I don’t feel as if I was even flaunting it.  It was not in our gamer tag, it was in our bio and unless I am mistaken that is part of my bio!

While she has a very valid point as to it being who she is, it is against the Xbox live Code of Conduct to have the word in your profile, gamertag, etc. From what we’ve seen, Microsoft is pretty strict about upholding the Code of Conduct.

To put it this way, Microsoft didn’t ban her for being a lesbian, but the ban was because she had the word lesbian in her profile.  Sadly there are no exceptions, if she can do it, what’s to stop someone from having “lesbian hater” in their profile.  While one is harmless, the other is harmful and Microsoft doesn’t allow either one to stop negative use of it.

It might be a bass ackwards way of doing things, but it’s how things are done.

Suspended from XBox Live for being a lesbian! [After Ellen]

Well at least microsoft has a code of conduct. Imagine if it was totally arbitrary or they didn’t even have one.

It would have been better If she kept things personal. It’s not very wise to share that stuff on XBL,GT, or what she did.

That person who “vented her frustration” is a hypocrite. She said she isn’t flaunting her sexuality but put it on her bio is flaunting it.

In other words its just another idiot created by today’s society.

    like i care!
You are on Xbox live, not on fling.com/lovedating/adultfinder.com or social networking site.

This is a gaming community, you type anything relating to gaming not your social life.

Again this is xbox live and people will find things offensive, from gamertag names to pics etc.

well, you can’t argue with Microsoft. Even though they wanted to put that in their bios, but isn’t that a little “too” personal?

“Create a Gamertag , avatar or use text in other profile fields that may offend other members. This includes comments that look, sound like, stand for, hint at, abbreviate, or insinuate or relate to any of the following: profane words/phrases, topics or content of a sexual nature, hate speech (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, or religious slurs), illegal drugs/controlled substances, or illegal activities;”

The bio is in the profile, and the first line says “other profile fields.”

It is a bass-ackwards way of doing things. Instead of f*cking banning people they should put some software into the f*cking x-box that tells you when you are putting in a banned word so that you can pick a different one.

I had a very lengthy paragraph ready, but i can sum it. This is stupid, if anyone was offended by “lesbian” why not just forget about it? I still want to donate to the colon cancer foundation to put a giant asshole on my forza 3 car and get away with it.

I agree with what Rocker had to say.
It’s not like they had been banned on a special day or something.
    It was just 24 hours.

Does this suck? Yes. But they agreed to the terms of service and that includes the code of conduct, plain and simple. If these lesbians had come across someone whose profile said “I hate gays” or “Homo Hater,” I’m sure they would want MS to intervene. The Code of Conduct works both ways. I don’t always agree with it, but it’s a necessary evil

Also, the title of the story is way misleading. Kreyg is a smart guy and knows exactly how to get his readers worked up. MS banned a customer for violating the Code of Conduct who just so happened to be a lesbian. Not like they’re just running around banning lesbians left and right.

meh, it’s just a word, i suppose a 24 hour ban is no biggy, but if it were a full console ban, then I’d call BS on it.

Well when you have so many people using your service, you have to do something to keep them in check with a limited moderator staff.

Gotta love the land of the free… that is ofc if you are white straight male with money. Otherwise it seems to be a bad place to be.
Why not ban the word “hate” instead, as that is what makes it bad. But I guess it’s ok to hate, just not be different.

What irony, by attempting to save people from being persecuted by homosexual hate mongers, Microsoft has in turn hurt the very people they were attempting to protect.
