A 13 year old boy was stabbed by a drunken 55 year old Isobel Mackenzie after he refused to stop playing his Xbox. Mackenzie denied assaulting the boy, claiming he inflicted the wound on himself to get her in trouble. One must wonder if that was before or after Mackenzie willfully admitted to being drunk and neglecting the boy while in her care last December.
The boy claims that when the argument over the Xbox began, he was pushed on to his chair and it was then he noticed that she had a knife. The boy says when he got up and in an attempt to push her back, he was stabbed. Mackenzie was found guilty by the jury at Inverness Sheriff Court after a 3 day trial.
Despite being found guilty, she won’t be doing any time in jail. Mackenzie was sentenced to 300 hours of community service. This seems very surprising considering Sheriff Neilson said her crime against the child was “very serious.”
I’m not one to say things, but when some drunk psycho lady stabs a 13 year old, she needs to be locked away. That’s just my opinion on the matter, but what do I know, right? I guess Scotland does things differently

Yeah she should definitely be going to jail, and the poor kid needs a new home. Foster care sucks (my aunt is a foster mother for two kids and has like 5 of her own to top it off) but it’s better than getting stabbed because somebody is drunk.
“I was drunk” is an excuse you use when you say things you really think, but never intend to say. It doesn’t work so well if you stab someone, especially if that someone is a minor in your care… That you’ve been neglecting… Because you’re drunk. She deserves some kind of punishment, but without all the details, it’s hard to speculate on what is appropriate.
As far as what to do with her, I’m not really sure. At 55 years old, I’m not sure that you’re going to rehabilitate her with time in prison. That just seems like a waste of time, money, and prison space to me. If this was her first case of violent behavior, after 55 years on this earth, then she’s better than a lot of people I see on the road everyday. As long as the kid has been removed from her care, and this was an isolated incident, then I don’t really see the point of locking her up.
But it would seem fitting to make her into cheap labor for the community, rather than to be a drain on it by feeding, clothing, and housing her at the tax payer’s expense. I would have given her more time though… I could do 300 hours standing on my head.
