Valve Delivers L4D2 SDK for Christmas

Valve is always in the holiday spirit, as evident by their yearly “Steam Holiday Sale”, but saving money isn’t Valve’s only gift this year. Content creators now have something to look forward to during the holiday break.

The Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools, as well as Left 4 Dead 2 Add-on Support is now available for use by players and designers. If you’re sitting there wondering why this is a big deal, these tools will allow those outside of Valve to create content for L4D2 more easily using the applications, utilities and example files included in the download. These new tools include the AI Director logic, scavenge mode support and much more. If you only want to play these custom campaigns, as opposed to creating your own, you will be more interested in downloading the Add-on Support, as the Authoring Tools are purely for those wishing to design.

With these tools now available for content creators, you can be sure that new add-ons for the game will be arriving soon, straight from the players. If you are interested in downloading either the Authoring Tools or Add-on Support, both are located in your steam Tools tab.

I love Valve they always think out “side the box” as well as inside the box. They make everything they do worth every penny. and they don’t abandon games they make till they make a new version of the game and thats worth getting. You can tell they love every game.

^^THIS is the reason I love PC gaming over a console any day. User based content/Mods, more freedom/options/abilities on the games themselves (whether the original game or a mod is running) and many other things the PC community can do that console variants have no access to or are very limited.

My gaming progression history; NES, SNES, N64, and then the AIO device: the PC. Once the PC gaming market had matured in both software/hardware during the late 90′s I never again looked back at consoles.

Nice one Valve, keep it up. *thumbs up*

It seems that every time Tovan posts a story here Valve looks more and more awesome. With certain companies taking active steps to prevent people from modding *cough cough* it is good to see there are still some who support user content.
