Ron Jeremy made an appearance at CES this year debating Craig Gross, an anti-pornography media activist about the ins and outs of pornography in the age of the internet. Jeremy made it clear during the debate that he felt video games were worse for children than porn.
“We don’t want kids to watch porn, Though if they do, there are far worse influences out there — like video games. Studies have found that violent video games are much bigger a negative influence on kids.”
Herein lies the debate. Are video games worse for a child than watching pornographic material? Full disclosure, I watch pornographic material sometimes and play video games on a regular basis. Both are very entertaining and neither has made me into a horrible person. I feel like always, each can have a negative effect depending on the person viewing the material. That’s what makes what Ron says a tough call.

Pornography is in a since less damaging because you wouldn’t hand your son backdoor lusts 9, but you might hand your son a new copy of MW2. Because people have a bigger problem with pornography, its actually less of a problem today.

The problem with throwing out facts to the effect of, “this has proven to have a negative outcome on kids” is that almost everything in the world has had a negative correlation to a group of people.
Heck, I’m willing to bet that school has had more negative effects on kids as a whole than video games or porn, whether it be socially or mentally. The stress of schoolwork or peer pressure can sometimes cause a lot of messed up stuff in a child’s life.
But people aren’t arguing to have schools banned.

I am the same Kreyg I have watched porn and played video games and I have not been a bad person either. I can see where Ron Jeremy is coming from since there are always stories about how someone killed someone because they did that in a game, but you never here that someone raped someone because they watched a porn. But i will say that I don’t think that playing video games or watching porn are bad both things are made to entertain a person of a certain age. I can tell you from experience I stumbled onto a porn website at a young age of 10 and i was scared. Either way I don’t think that either of these things make you a bad person its how you want to act that makes you a bad person.
When I found pr0nz for the first time, I was like wow that looks coool. It was an interesting experience. Ironically enough, right after it I played some sega genesis. Porn and Video games, go figure.

Yea, I would have loved trying to use this line on my parents when I was younger… I’m sure they would have let me sit around and watch porn as much as I wanted. Yes, some video games do have very mature content, and they are rated as such, and have an age restriction for a reason, just like porn.
I think that if kids play violent video games while they are too young to tell the difference between games and reality, video games are worse.
But if kids are watching porn like there is no tomorrow, then that is a whole different issue that I don’t want to explain.
I think there should be a non-written rule for parents. Let there be a max of 2 years between your child’s age and the game rating.
For example, if a game is rated T, only buy the game for your child if they are at least 11.
For R rated games, make sure your kid is at least 15.
