Ben Jones of Zipper Interactive recently spoke with GamerZines at a MAG launch Party in London. Jones told GamerZine that he considers Xbox Live to be “more juvenile” than the PlayStation Network. Which I’m sure is something many of us might agree with.
Jones believes it’s “the things that are being said over Xbox Live” that make it this way. Being with the Xbox Live service 5 years now, I can agree to some extent. Jones then goes on to state, “I think the PlayStation audience definitely fits more to our game.” He then used the MAG beta as a reason why,
As we saw in the beta we’ve got an audience that’s willing to communicate and willing to organize and structure, and help other people to play the game. That’s the most remarkable thing that I saw in the beta – random people helping other players along to try and familiarize themselves with this really cool experience.
While that might be true, different games breed different communities. It should also be noted that Xbox actually comes with a mic, and the PlayStation does not. Meaning more people are actually saying things over Xbox Live, but this video does illustrate what Jones means about it being “juvenile.”
Zipper: Xbox Live “more juvenile” than PSN [GamerZines via Dtoid]

Tsss stupid kid and their microphone, they think they are cool. I hate hearing their squeaky voice.
Anyway how someone can use this crappy 360 headset i cant hear a damn thing with that and it’s very uncomfortable.
and psh and you thought gaming was only for adults who grew up blowing cartridges for nintendo and sega. XD
I think the biggest reason this is true is because of the microphone that’s included with the 360. The majority of people that care enough to buy a headset for a PS3 are those that actually care to communicate.

Dude have you seen the rest of the video’s? Poor kid goes through some emotional torture!
The only time ive heard someone talk on PSN were these two prick that wanted to play with their freind in a demo. and then i showed up with no mic. and they fucking kicked me from the game. PSN might not have juvinelle kids but they do have some pricks. But not everyone on there is like that. I got a freind on there that was just met thru a a demo where we helped each other out. and we neither have a mic.
HA I think this just made my day and the video too! I tend to find less kids on PSN but then again I dont have an Xbox so I dont know what XBLA is like. But what I seem to find alot of are people who either: A: have a southern accent.(no offence to any southerners) B: Sound like they’re from the “Getto”. Or C: play music over there mics. Though I think that with the prics drop in the PS3 that more Juvenlies will start to own a PS3
When I mean pulls more kids I’m talking about slayer and team slayer.
While i have to agree with juvenile comment i also agree that it has to do with the number of people with mic in XBL. Also i find when it comes to games like COD and Halo where you can be a team “rock star” and win matches tend to pull more kids. Games that are objective based and you need a team to win tend to pull more of the Teen and adult audience. Because little kids tend to lack the ability to play on a team.
Yeah there is definitely an element of the lack of a standard mic in the amount of people talking on the network. The Wii probably has the youngest user base, but nobody talks of the wii, partly because of the fact that the online is comparatively weak and partly because nobody in their right minds would buy wii speak.
It’s not like this doesn’t happen on PSN, but it is more rampant on XBL. XBL is that way because it has had 6 years to develop it’s fan base. Give PSN another year or two and it will be the same way.
Picture pretty much explains it.
That kid is pretty funny. But I don’t really think it is “Juvenile”
He’s just mad cause no one talks on PSN, I am sure if every PS3 came with a mic(which it should) PSN would be just as bad, but since most 10 year olds don’t have a blue-tooth headsets. Since all 360s come with a mic, all young and juveniles get to scream and yell obscenities like they are going out of style.
and thats why it is somewhat nice
well the reason there arent as much children screaming into your ear on PSN is the lack of a mic that comes with the console
