This weeks Free Indie Friday was going to be based off the entrants to the Global Game Jam, but there wasn’t enough time to play many of those games. Those games for Free Indie Friday will be postponed for a later date. One of the main reasons is there were over 900 entrants this year! That’s right! Over 900 free games made within 48 hours. All of them are available on the GGJ site and I suggest you all check them out.
Here are the games for this week:
Parasite
This is a game that just oozes with personality, character, and awesome design. If this game had been out when I was a kid I would have though it had been made by Shiny (the guys who made Earthworm Jim). I meant to only throw this one up quick and do a short review of it, but when I went to get the link for it, I ended up playing it all the way through again.
In this game you play as a parasite taking over and subsequently killing everything on this beautiful planet. Yeah, you actually play as the evil invading alien taking over and destroying a planet. I had a lot of fun with this game. It’s pretty entertaining being the bad guy every once in a while.
The controls are spot on and the game world if fun to explore, even if you are killing it. Nitrome also has some other great games I might get around to sharing with you guys some day.
Time Fcuk
Time Fcuk is another great game made by the creator of the game Meat Boy. This is a game that’s all about time and space. You’ll be able to shift between different planes on the screen in order to collect items to move onto the next area. You’ll also play with time and gravity in order to achieve your goals. Just don’t get mixed up in the wrong time or plane or else you’ll end up phasing right to your death.
All the while you’ll be receiving messages from yourself at different points in time. This adds a really weird vibe to an already odd, yet interesting game. Just like Meat Boy, this game has a fun engaging story that makes you want to keep playing. This guy definitely has a knack for immersing you in his games.
Gretel and Hansel

A retelling of the story Hansel and Gretel, the game itself is basically just collecting stones to make your way back home. Where this game shines is its art. This game looks fantastic and creates and eerie feeling. The game has a very Tim Burton like retelling of the story. This is definitely not a children’s story, but dark, creepy, and the deaths are bloody and sadistic. A rather short game but worth a playthrough.
This week I’ll definitely look through the Global Game Jam games and select some favorites. Don’t forget to tell me what you thought of these games! Leave a comment below and let me know which was your favorite. Until next week, keep gaming!
