Halo 3 Crushes Sony Exclusives

Bungie1

We’ve all heard Sony bragging about their console exclusives and their Halo killers, but as it stands now — Halo 3 is still on top compared to them. Not even the combined sales of Sony’s top exclusive franchises has outsold Halo 3.

A tweet by Microsoft’s Arron Greenberg rubs a pretty amazing fact in Sony’s face.

Just in from research team (NPD): Halo 3 has outsold Resistance 1 + 2, Uncharted 1+2, Killzone 2 and God of War III COMBINED….wow.

There you have it Sony, yeah your games may look better than Halo 3 — but it’s outselling some of your console selling games. How will Sony respond? Probably with some fact throwing of their own. That is alright, we always like it when companies fight. Competition is what makes things great these days. Remember Genesis Does what Nintendon’t?

I guess Sony has one thing to look forward though. Bungie is now a company that will make games for Sony too. So no more salt being rubbed in the wound by Microsoft.

I’d personally say the stats are wrong/incorrect/bent, as most stats are.

I’ve never been to interested in the halo series, but I do agree on dev’s not taking risks anymore for the sake of safety.

Halo 3 sells because it’s a quality FPS, a challenge to win and H3 fanboys love watching it….that’s why Monster Energy Drinks pay people to play it constantly. If it was mediocre, or so-so, no one would care! You don’t see many Day of Defeat 1.6 demi-gogues getting paid million dollar contracts to squash some random tourney in the Bronx.

A friend of mine quipped once, “I play games for graphics, second to none.” I literally laughed in his face as there is no decent comeback from a video game veteran such as myself(not tooting my horn, I know what makes a game, got my NES when I was 4) that would not insult their intelligence. Good games = win, that is all. Doesn’t matter how great they “look”, I’ll take 16-bit over a brilliantly directed piece of art like Uncharted 2 if it’s a better game. Oh yeah, FFVI is one the best games ever made, end of discussion. Trumps Uncharted 2 without even trying.

I love seeing all the hate for Halo 3, it’s quite hilarious. This game is nowhere near what Microsoft hyped it to be, but it’s also nowhere near as bad as you guys try to make it sound. Haters will hate though I guess.

Good for Bungie and MS to have sold as many copies of the game as they did.

This stupid game sold more than any of the Sony exclusives combined? There goes humanity!

only 1 think i need to say, 53% failure rate.

    also, quality over quantity

Did i really just read this? I mean…..it just seems like flame bait but i will say some things.

    1) 360 has more users because of the year “head start” and the lower price (b4). So the “this sold better than this, therefore it is inferior” loses any merit it had. (if it had any, obviously sales don’t show game quality *looks at mw2 case*)

    2) in one of the comments it seemed you said something along the lines of “sony should stop bragging about their games and start advertising them more, like microsoft.” When some dev or sony says something like “this will be the halo killer,” they are just hyping up the game, which can be seen as advertisement. Similar to the “crysis 2 looks better than uncharted 2″ and “crysis 2 will be the halo killer” comments currently being made by one of the devs.

    3) like many have said, who cares about these types of numbers.

    4) as i said, the halo killer comments are just hyping the game up / one way of getting people interested in the game. Really, the only trash talk i saw in this article was the tweet.

      5) FLAME WARSSSSSS!

Facts and numbers can be twisted. I have a feeling that there are some asterisks in there somewhere.
Considering that Halo 3 was one of the most anticipated games of the last ten years, these sort of things are to be expected. There is also the matter of who has a larger userbase. One of the reason that nintendo games see high sales figures (sometimes), is the massive userbase that they are selling to.

    • xDSJxPyro June 10, 2010 at 17:17 - Reply

Well maybe Sony should try to build their game users base more than spend time just bragging that their games will be superior to Microsoft’s games. This is where Microsoft has been winning, they advertise the crap out of their top tier games, the ones that sell consoles.

I have no interest in attacking or defending any one company. I’m just here to justify “factual” evidence.

      • jerry June 11, 2010 at 13:43 - Reply

You mean the worldwide userbase thats like just a couple mil away from surpassing the 360?

These numbers are fudged. And are only accounting for NA sales.

World wide those same exclusives have over 13 million copies vs Halos probable 7mil.

Damn, That’s crazy, Sony always trys to have “Halo Killers” but they always fail, no matter how much they advertise it.

    • wardog546 June 10, 2010 at 15:52 - Reply

Just to throw this out there, “halo killers” don’t really exist as devs don’t make games to compete. The game community just call it a “Halo Killer”

  12. baconatorXking June 10, 2010 at 14:56 - Reply

oh joy i can only imagine the amount of flame wars and trolling will come out of this. not surprised though halo 3 may not have been a great nor as good as it should have been but personally i still loved it even though it sold because of halo 2 and its cliffhanger with huge amounts of advertisement. damn you bungie and your great marketing

  13. Sandhu Andreas June 10, 2010 at 14:11 - Reply

Strong marketing + sheep = profit.
And Lolz at the Halo fanboys giving thumbs down on the comments. *braces self*

  14. Rocker2791 June 10, 2010 at 13:08 - Reply

Well I’m sure IW could brag at Treyarch about how MW2 has outsold W@W and CoD3. It’s all about hype and addictiveness. MW2 sucks, yet I still play it a bit because it can be very addictive and competitive. There’s just a nice feeling when you work well together with 5 other guys you’ve never met, and kick the crap out of the other team. Halo has a huge fan base that hyped the crap out of Halo 3, therefore it sold like hot cakes.

this is why the gaming industry is dying (to me) it’s all about the numbers now not about just having fun with the games, i died a little inside reading this

    • Mathew June 10, 2010 at 17:15 - Reply

I don’t see why you all give him a thumbs down. This statement is 100% true. Just because you can’t handle the truth, doesn’t mean you should hide it from others.

    • Kreyg June 11, 2010 at 00:59 - Reply

I totally agree with you there Mr Ryan. The industry is sadly becoming about numbers and dollar signs, rather than awesome games.

It seems more now, developers are afraid to take risks and come out with new and exciting games. For the most part everything is a franchise that’s factory produced and pumped out to the masses each year.

I dont feel you should die a little inside, but rather be someone who is that person who still has fun gaming. Let some corporate douche worry about the numbers.

I like how Sony struts around like they are king anyway. You know that this has to be eating them up inside.

so a shit game sells more than some decent/good/great games. wow, just wow

    • Kreyg June 10, 2010 at 07:07 - Reply

Just shows you what this world is coming to.

    • xDSJxPyro June 10, 2010 at 17:20 - Reply

I would not call Halo 3 a shit game, yeah it did not live up to the hype, but it was still a quality game, more than Sony can say. They keep talking smack on how their games are better, well does not look like it. Hype can be both good or bad, but I don’t feel Halo 3 was so successful just because of all the hype it had.

      • Kreyg June 11, 2010 at 00:53 - Reply

TRUE, I personally didn’t like it. But millions of people did. But that’s cool. I still play it, but I feel it could have been better than it was.

I guess I just always had high hopes for Halo 3 after Halo 2. I hope Halo: Reach is amazing

  19. dragonquestking June 10, 2010 at 06:22 - Reply

There will always be salt rubbed in by microsoft. They still own halo and they know people will buy and play it no matter what. The only people that might not buy it are the older gamers that know that without bungie it wouldnt be the same.

  20. DUSTxDEVIL June 10, 2010 at 06:20 - Reply

    That is disgraceful…
At least Bungie knows how to rake in the cash.
