Rumors had been circulating around for quite some time that Activision could one day start to charge subscription fees for Call of Duty’s online. Well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg recently came out to squash those rumors and said that they will not be doing this. This probably left a lot of Call of Duty fans breathing a sigh of relief.
Are we going to be charging for multiplayer? The answer is no. The experience you have out of the box, connecting with the online community to play Call of Duty is absolutely integral to the experience and we’ll never charge for that. It’s not going to be something we’ll attempt to monetize; it’s part of the package
It would be silly for them to begin any kind of subscription based service considering that the last two games have shattered entertainment sales records. Charging subscriptions for COD’s online–in the long run–would probably do more damage than good to the series. People–including myself–would simply find something else to play.
It’s good to see that Activision has realized they don’t need to charge us gamers per month to play. They’ll just make up for it by selling us old maps as downloadable content.
Activision: ‘We Will Never, Ever Charge’ for Call of Duty Multiplayer [Industry Gamers]

ACTIVISION IS HERO!
Maybe they won’t charge for that, but there other ways for them to get more money like charging more for DLC and maybe even the game itself.
i doubt they are gonna make you pay unless they really do make a Call of Duty MMO, which i really am confused on how it would work.
what about ps3
What about their next game? The next non-COD game. Will we have to pay for that game’s multiplayer…
I don’t believe Activision for one dam second.
I’m calling bullshit on this one
Inb4 they start charging
Good! because I definitely wouldn’t pay
I wouldn’t either.
We’ll see, I just cannot trust Activision. I would like this to be true, but they can say all the things they want, but I bet it will happen sooner or later.
BS.
LOL! Why you think they’ll come out and start charging a year later?
Many people have gone back on their word, a year is a far way off, you never know what can happen.
Maybe they’re not so greedy….
