Since it became popular a few months ago, Minecraft has matured into something beyond its original intention of a survival game. While certainly the game is still rooted on the basic idea of surviving in your world, players have also started utilizing it in order to create vast contraptions and monuments. Ranging from cannons, the Starship Enterprise, and now a scale replica of the Earth–Minecraft is quickly becoming a very powerful creation tool.
In the same way that Minecraft randomly generates worlds, it is possible to slightly influence that process by importing a file–such as a topographic map. Through the use of height maps provided by NASA, an accurate scale replica of the Earth isn’t as difficult as you would originally imagine.
Featured below is a very basic attempt at this import process. Using only the previously mentioned topographic map–and a small amount of direct editing in order to adjust water levels–it’s easy to see the potential for creating an even larger, and more accurate, recreation. Currently, the map size is only 1000×500 blocks, making it a very small scale test for what is truly possible.
Obviously, the process requires a bit of tweaking before it can accurately be referred to as a “scale replica”. However, it’s still an impressive beginning for such an ambitious project.
If you’re interested in exploring the map for yourself, the download is available here.

For those illiterate folks who cant read the article, he didn’t build this in game, he imported a height map and only changed the water level.. still interesting and id love a full scale replica. Imagine a full scale replica if this thrown onto a server for people to attempt replicating cities irl
That’s insane. That guy must never have anything to do, or be super bored 24/7
he must have balls the size of freeside if he did that on survival
and about 10,000 arrows…
Impressive, I can’t wait for full scale.
that must of took a few days and lol at the pandemic 2 reference
Wish I had that kind of time.
That is NUTS, once again blown away by what people can do in game.
