Korean College Student Dies After 12 Hour Gaming Session

At an internet parlor in the city of Ulsan in South Korea on Monday, a 19 year old college student met a very tragic end to a 12 hour gaming session. The 19 year old–only being identified as Moon–began his session at 2 in the morning, took a break at 10:30 am to go home and grab some food, and then proceeded back to the internet parlor.

The 19 year old later collapsed at the internet parlor and was quickly rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately he was pronounced dead upon his arrival. The boy’s family and friends say that Moon, “habitually played the online shooting game.” Which shooting game is currently unknown. Police are currently investigating the cause of the young man’s death.

You can’t really blame the game here for the death, but it’s a reminder to all those who do play for extended periods of time — be careful when you do.

I've probably done this before. I know I've played too long after the the parts of my eyes that are supposed to be white, are completely red. Maybe it's because I wear glasses?

I've done many marathons much longer than 12 hours, I guess you just have to be a beast like me to survive them.

    But thats still pretty sad...

I am sorry, but the name of the internet cafe being PC Bang, Come on man, its just too perfect. Maybe they should investigate that place, who knows, a person with an ice bullet on the grassy knoll could have shot him.

The name isn't PC Bang. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PC_bang

That should better explain it better than I

Well so the lan center was not called PC Bang. That is what they call LAN centers over there? Still a bit of a coincidence.

Correct, it's a general term for an enhanced version of our LAN centers--but it's also not pronounced as PC "Bang" as you're probably thinking.

When referring to a Bang in English, the "a" is pronounced as it is in "ball" as opposed to how it is in the word "man".

I think it has to do with being in a position for so long, like sitting in a chair in the same position for so long. Apparently blood clots form then once the person starts moving, the clot gets released then bam, dead. Though I could be wrong

This is why i don't constantly do ANYTHING for long periods of time. I always knew that video games would be deathly fun.....didn't know it would be so true.
(i bet $50 that the shooter was CoD)

I dunno about that. I've been sitting on my ass for years and nothing bad has happened to me. I mean I'm not always being lazy, but majority of the time, when I really have nothing to do, lazy takes priority.

Maybe since you didnt blink your eyes for few hours maybe so when you finally blink your eye burns like hell and starts to turn red.

I don't see how video game could be blamed for this, unfortunately he probably had some medical issues that kicked in after a while.

He probably had a underlying illness that caused his death but how can someone play for 12 hours straight?!??! I get bored after like 2 hours.

I'm under the distinct impression that something else had caused his death. Saying that "12 straight hours of hardcore gaming" sounds dubious for a cause of death. The more I read it do I get the idea that the press likely used the fact as an exploit. Maybe he had high blood pressure, stress got him, ect. But "damn blasted vidya gaymes" were only partially the source.
