In THQ’s upcoming shooter — Homefront will use same online pass that previous THQ game UFC 2010 used.
THQ’s online pass is a single use code that comes with all new copies of the game. People who rent or purchase the game second hand can get an online code by paying 10 bucks for it. Much like what EA is doing with their games.
There are difference between the two online passes though. If you do not get the online code from new copies of the game, and don’t purchase the code online. You will still get access to the mulitplayer portion of Homefront, but it will be limited to what players will get if they purchase the game. Players will get access to all of the maps, but the level will be capped at level five out of the total level 75.
Users will be able to play as long as their hearts desire, but will not progress past level five, or won’t get upgrades that they would get by progressing through the multiplayer and leveling up.
So if you plan on renting or buying this game used and don’t want to spend ten bucks to purchase the online pass, you better get used to staying at level five.
Homefront to Feature THQ’s Online Pass; Multiplayer Available but Capped for Secondary Users [Shacknews]

Kinda lame, if I read the article correctly a person buys the game used but purchases the online pass they stay capped at five? Screw THQ for that
No, if they buy the game used and DON'T buy the online pass for ten bucks they will stay at level 5.
Thanks for that...my reading skills need work lol
What a boner kill. I want this game so badly, I'll even spend the $60 for a new copy! But damn, some desperate DUDES. I don't like any game who will sell out to one of those game milking companies.
Looks Like I won't be buying it used.
Use GameFly. I 'kept' (Read: Game disc was at house and I paid to never have to send it back ever <3) Episodes From Liberty City and they mailed me a brand-spanking new case. All the inserts were in it, and in immaculate condition. Hell, it even had the little sticker on the side that you have to take off after the cellophane wrapping is off.
I think that game is going to be fun
This is kind-of a buzz kill, but I doubt its going to stop people from playing. Plus, I have this one pre-ordered, so no level 5 for me :D haha
