In a refreshing new version of the classic 3-D shooter Wolfenstein instead of pushing the bleeding edge of gaming technology it has been boiled down to it’s basics and then boiled down again to a single line of pixels called “Wolfenstein 1-D.”
The game made by Wonder-Tonic displays one line of pixels colored to show where doors, enemies, and ammunition are. The single level playable on their site, which you should play, is amazing considering how playable it actually is. It certainly shows how little you need to make a game and begs the question how little is too little?

I tried playing that game... it sucks big time... i prefer the original way better. even though it's a creative way to playing this game, i just can't play this version at all...
I have to agree with Gilbert on this one, it isn't all that great. Really makes me want to play the original again though now...
I think it was made just for that reason. To be unplayable, but still a game.
I'm sure some idiot will actually beat this...
I think it's pretty fun, it's just disorienting me lol
Thats to many D's for me to handle
If i remember my math correctly, 1 dimension is a straight line, and so shouldn't 1d wolfenstein be a single pixel only displayed what is directly in front of you?
If it was still designed to be an FPS then yes, however that 1D would also have to be the only direction in which you can move, and overall this is a much better way of doing it.
I actually found the game to be quite amusing. I don't see how you all found it unplayable. It's definitely not FUN so to speak, but it is a very intriguing examination of what makes a game a game.
Honestly, I kinda had fun playing it.
