Notch Working on “Skyworld”

If you follow Notch on Twitter you more then likely already know this, but just in case you missed his tweets or don’t use this Twitter thing. We got you covered so it’s alright. Anyways, Notch has been working on the next update to Minecraft for a little while now, and has been fixing tons of bugs, he has been trying to add a new “world” to the game.

Much like the Nether, this new area though is a series of floating islands high in the sky, that add a new dimension to the game. While he gave up on the project earlier this week, thanks to PC Gamer, he states that he will find a way to make it work, and has released some screens of what this new “Skyworld” would look like.

Hope you have enough ladder! Also expect update 1.6 sometime next week, but that does not mean this new “Skyworld” will be part of that update next week.

Someone already built a sky adventure map, I saw paulsoaresjr‬‏ do it on an episode of Minecraft Family Adventures a couple of months ago.

And yeah, how did the snow get above the clouds? O_o

This is cool and all, but I can't say that I'm really extremely excited for it. Unless there's some sort of flying beast I can tame up there and take with me back to the ground world. LIKE A DRAGON! But since dragons have neither been discussed let alone confirmed I am not excited. If anything I would be happy if Notch just raised the sky box 10-20 blocks so we could build our own sky worlds above the clouds. And then he could introduce Mountain generation into the rendering process allowing the game to create mountains with sharp peaks above the sky line. And then he could make a craft-able grappling hook that allows you to repel up walls and cliff sides.
