With the splash Nintendo made once the leak of their next console was reveled and they had to fess up to the fact that they were in fact working on the device — console gamers are wondering what Sony and Microsoft are working on in their secret laboratories. Earlier this month, a very trusted source said EA had the next Xbox at their studio and was working on games for the device already.
Well right from the cat’s mouth this time, Sony has said in their yearly financial report that they are in fact hard at work on the PlayStation 3 successor. While that means very little since just about everyone knows that the big three have been working on the next generation of consoles — it’s just a matter of when will we get out grubby little hands on them.
For the home equipment the PS3 still has a product life, but this is a platform business, so for the future platform – when we’ll be introducing what product I cannot discuss that – but our development work is already under way, so the costs are incurred there.
Back in February, Kaz said that a future PlayStation was not really their priority right now since they are focusing on the NGP, and the PlayStation 3 still had plenty to offer. While I am sure the PS4 was being designed and thought out, they didn’t have a reason to let people know about it. Why not wait until E3?
With the recent trouble Sony has ran into with Geohot and the whole losing 70 million customers information. Maybe they think now would be a time to let the news go that, yes we are working on a new piece of hardware.
What ever the case is, we can officially say the Sony’s next console is something. Saying that though, we have no information about it other then they are working on it.
