Someone Messed Up With The PC Release of Dead Island

UPDATE: Deep Silver says “Correct” version will be available later today

Many of you are aware that today is ‘zombie massacre day’ thanks to the release of Dead Island. Well, PC players who purchased the game on Steam are playing a very different game than what Deep Silver anticipated – a dev build. As a fairly anticipated title, you can bet that when Dead Island was released early this morning, people immediately fired it up. Unfortunately, these found some glaring problems such as a no-clip mode that is activated by pressing ‘Y’.

Leave it to the internet to determine that the version of Dead Island that was released on Steam is in fact a dev build of the game. In the code, these internet detectives found some very interesting lines that point to the Xbox 360 version of the game being uploaded to the Steam servers.

A day one patch is in place to fix various problems that were found after the game went gold, but it’s not likely that it will fix this mess. The fact that something like this managed to slip out is unfortunate, although I suppose you must learn from your mistakes.

its not a port, it’s a dev build [SteamForums] (Thanks Andrew)

This is just goofing beyond the usual levels. Also lol @ the picture.

From what I've heard from a few people, the Xbox code may not mean it's a port, and that the dev build wasn't meant for any specific system.

Though that's probably just hope because people, including myself, are quite sick of poorly done console ports.

I saw the same video you did. I thought it was a gag, but then I saw this updated on Facebook, and I am wholly disappointed. Does anyone know if this happened with the 360 version, or is it not for sale yet, due to the stores being closed?

Dev build for all! Third person views, noclip toggles, and frequent crashing. Hooray. :P
