Mounted Combat Coming to Skyrim

Someone at Bethesda has been listening a whole lot lately, as after we received the Kinect add-on with Xbox 360, we now see another feature from the Skyrim Game Jam make its way to a copy of the game.

Friend of the site, Dave Oshry demonstrates mounted combat, and his impeccable video editing skills;

Starting in beta today and available to all Steam users if they so choose to try it out in beta form, you’ll be able to take out foes without even getting off your horse (which I will assume is Shadowmere because it is superior to all horses in Skyrim for obvious reasons… red eyes). The natural conclusion is that melee is allowed on horseback but you’ll also be allowed to pick off enemies with ranged attacks. You’ve just become the most dangerous piece of cavalry Skyrim will ever see.

To be the hell on wheels (hoofs?) you’ve always dreamed of, you’ll have to get the 1.6 update first. You can wait until its official release or follow the instructions on the Bethesda blog post regarding the new additions.

    Now if only we could get that multiplayer mod working, then I could be doing old fashioned Mount and Blade jousting matches in Skyrim.

    That is truly incredible. I was always thinking that Bethesda had lost something when they forgot to have mounted combat in Skyrim.

    I know right. You'd think they'd play their game thoroughly before release to find out what's annoying over time. Either they enjoyed getting off their horse everytime they wanted to kill something or they just couldn't be bothered testing important shit out.

    Skyrim's an incredibly broad game with content up the wazzoo. I don't think they had the time to check over every single bloody detail in the game.

    They'd find that out by simply playing the game. Maybe after 4 hours of gameplay it would've become obvious that it's annoying and it's something that needs to be addressed. I mean, it's not hard to notice that kind of stuff. You can't even call it a detail it's more of a fuckin' mountain in terms of visibility.

    You are absolutely right. I was going to put that in my message but, for some reason, I couldn't be bothered.

    Bethesda figured if the horses could walk up vertical mountain faces that would make up for mounted combat.

    There are horses in Skyrim!?!

    But seriously, I don't even ride horses. It's far more fun to sneak and roll everywhere.

    But on the other hand, archery from a horse should be fun.

    But then again, I won't get my 3x bonus instakill if they see me coming.

    But, fuck it, I'm on a horse.
