Black Ops II Has Already Made Half a Billion

blops2head

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops II earned more than $500 million worldwide during its first 24 hours on sale. To put that in perspective, last year’s Modern Warfare 3 earned $400 million in the US and UK on launch day.

“With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick. “Life-to-date sales for the Call of Duty franchise have exceeded worldwide theatrical box office receipts for Harry Potter and Star Wars, the two most successful movie franchises of all time.”

While Activision hasn’t revealed the specific number of copies sold, we know that at least 1 million copies were sold at GameStop midnight launches when it launched on Tuesday. Black Ops II will be released on Wii U on November 18th.

Disappointing, but I expected it. I have some small hope though because a lot of the user ratings/reviews are not favorable. Looking to be possibly the most hated CoD ever, while being the highest selling. It might spell trouble for them next year. Though I imagine it'll still probably sell 300 million in 24 hours next year. Better than 500 at least.

CoD fans are machines. They just throw money at Activision/IW/3arc even if the game is an obvious copy+paste from the previous year (like MW3). It's getting out of control already.

Yeah, I seen a footballer on Twitter the other day saying "So where's the *blah blah blah* in this new CoD?" Most don't even know what the fuck they're buying they just run to a games shop cock in hand and waste money on it.

And I thought Madden was the only one that was a master of copying and pasting and getting away with it...

I don't know. I don't see it as a copy and paste and I still have fun playing it. They've obviously found something a lot of fans want, and they're sticking to it, hence how people keep buying it.

Ive enjoyed black ops 2 more than MW3. I went in pessimistic and that probably raised my veiw of it. I only really buy them for campaigns now and some hours of multiplayer which gets me my value for money copared to other means of entertainment so i cant complain really.
